Outlook saves all your email in one big “.pst” file. If it messes that up when writing one new email, you can lose the whole lot. Everytime Outlook reads or “opens”; a “.pst” file it marks the file as modified. I have no idea why it would do this as it really defies all common sense. How this affects YOU is it wastes your time if you try to use normal backup software with email. If you try to back it up, your program is going to save the whole lot everytime, even though nothing has changed! With SaveMail, your email is stored in normal files and backing those up works like every other normal file – if it has been (really) changed, it gets backed up.
